“Every Body a Healthy Body – Medicare for All”

Transylvania Indivisible and Friends will rally in Brevard at the Courthouse on Main from 12:00 to 12:30 PM, Saturday, July 22.

When I was about 14 my mom said to me that often in life I would have to make a choice.  She said I have to choose between being right, or being effective.  Rarely could I choose to be both. I want our presence on Saturday to be effective. That means we must move towards achieving our goals.

Our goals:

  1. Attract positive media attention;
  2. Create allies from people who might not normally be;
  3. Make clear that it is not about right against left, but about right against wrong;
  4. Show our neighbors that there is an alternative to BCRA/AHCA
    1. Presenting the numbers, impacts, effects of BCRA/AHCA –
    2. Shine a light on the moral/ethical implications of those effects
    3. Add faces to the numbers
  5. Offering a positive alternative- single payer (Medicare for All)

We can’t meet our goals unless we attack the bankrupt ideas of BCRA and AHCA with the intent to communicate. The people who hold these ideas may be misguided or ignorant, but they are not evil. Ignorance is not a sin- we are all born that way- but choosing to remain that way is.

To achieve Goal 2, we must communicate with those neighbors; to to shine a little light into the darkness. Too much light, too quickly blinds not illuminates. Communication is a three-part experience- message sent, message received and messaged processed. If people are blinded by the light, their minds close and processing shuts down –  communication is short-circuited. Listen with the intent to understand, not the intent to respond and communication becomes possible.

I have also listed a few (OK- more than a few!) sign ideas to stimulate your own creative activity. TO REITERATE: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE ATTACK IDEAS, NOT PEOPLE.
