“We seem to continue to sell away one of our most valuable resources along Asheville Highway – our land – to corporate America, which makes us like every-other-town, USA,” Dinkins said. “One of the things we talk about when we come into this chamber every month is how unique our town is. I know my speech is not going to change the minds of people who have put a lot of time and money into this project, but, as we move forward, I would really like council to help us relay a plan as to what Brevard will look like in the next 10 years.”

State Supreme Court Justice Mike Morgan signed an order Friday that would allow two- and three-member county election boards to make decisions about early voting sites and hours for upcoming elections without a quorum, as long as those decisions are made unanimously. Morgan’s order allows counties like Swain and Transylvania, which are both operating with two-member boards, to move forward with plans for municipal elections in November.

On Sept. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Transylvania County Library Rogow Room.
For two Brevard City Council seats, candidates Jessica Gallagher, Mac Morrow, and Maureen Copelof have been invited to participate in a traditional forum and debate session.
For unopposed Mayor of Brevard and Rosman Alderman seats, candidates Jimmy Harris and candidates Missy Hendricks, Jared Crowe, and Deedra Shelton have been invited to participate in an informational session as a panel after the City Council session. John Lanier, Editor of the Translyvania Times, will serve as moderator.
