Campaign Action Sign the petition to the U.S. Senate: Pass a bill to fully fund the Census Bureau and 2020 census activities.

The census historically undercounts communities of color, low-income people, and immigrant communities. The 2010 census failed to count over 1.5 million people of color. 1.5 million people weren’t counted when it was time to map voting districts and fund vital human services. Undercounting will have even harsher impacts on communities of color if we let Trump purposely starve the Census Bureau.

Sign the petition to US Senate: Reject armed Secret Service agents at polling places

Knowing armed agents could show up to polling places at any time at wouldn’t only intimidate voters in the moment—it could also keep people targeted by the Trump administration’s voter suppression efforts, like immigrants and people of color, from the polls in the first place.

Tell Your Senators: End Our Unauthorized War in Yemen

This doesn’t happen very often—the Senate will soon debate and vote on an American war. Specifically, it will take up a bipartisan resolution (S.J.Res. 54) to end U.S. participation in the Yemen civil war.

This is a big deal. The United States’ role in the Yemen war is complicated and controversial. Importantly, it also hasn’t been authorized by Congress.

For too long, Congress has ceded its war powers to the executive branch. That’s always been a dangerous trend—but it’s especially perilous now that Donald Trump is the commander-in-chief.

There’s a lot at stake here. Here’s what you need to know.

Why Can’t the U.S. Treat Gun Violence as a Public-Health Problem?

After a deadly shooting, the debate always, it seems, breaks down like this: One side argues for gun control, and the other argues there is no research proving those measures work. There is, in fact, little research into gun violence at all—especially compared to other causes of death in the United States.
The modern origins of the impasse can be traced to 1996, when Congress passed an amendment to a spending bill that forbade the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from using money to “advocate or promote gun control.”

The FCC just voted to end net neutrality. We can get Congress to overrule them.

Net neutrality is the principle that Internet providers like Comcast & Verizon should not control what we see and do online. In 2015, startups, Internet freedom groups, and 3.7 million commenters won strong net neutrality rules from the US Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The rules prohibit Internet providers from blocking, throttling, and paid prioritization—”fast lanes” for sites that pay, and slow lanes for everyone else.

Get Out of Facebook and Into the N.R.A.’s Face

Read the paper or the web. The G.O.P., which claimed to stand for conservative family values, has prostrated itself before the most indecent person to ever occupy the White House — a man who lies as he breathes, smears poor, nonwhite nations and reportedly had sex with a porn star shortly after his wife delivered their son. But G.O.P. lawmakers are mute on this because President Trump energizes their base and ensures their $174,000-a-year jobs and free parking at Reagan National Airport.
