Campaign Action Sign the petition to the U.S. Senate: Pass a bill to fully fund the Census Bureau and 2020 census activities.
by David Williams | Mar 18, 2018 | Mark Meadows, Our Elected Representatives, Race, Richard Burr, Take Action!, Thom Tillis, Transylvania Indivisible, Voting and Elections
The census historically undercounts communities of color, low-income people, and immigrant communities. The 2010 census failed to count over 1.5 million people of color. 1.5 million people weren’t counted when it was time to map voting districts and fund vital human services. Undercounting will have even harsher impacts on communities of color if we let Trump purposely starve the Census Bureau.

Yemen, one of the Arab world’s poorest countries, has been devastated by a civil war. Here we explain what is fueling the fighting, and who is involved.

by David Williams | Mar 15, 2018 | DACA, Mark Meadows, Race, Richard Burr, Take Action!, Thom Tillis, Transylvania Indivisible
On December 22, sixty-six senators, including 17 Democrats, voted to pass the year-end spending bill without the inclusion of legislative protection for undocumented youth. By voting for a spending bill without the Dream Act, our political leaders BROKE YET ANOTHER PROMISE and voted for the deportation of immigrant youth.

Brevard College SGA is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a#NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018 to protest Congress’ inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence plaguing our schools and neighborhoods. We need action.

by David Williams | Mar 10, 2018 | Mark Meadows, Op-Ed, Richard Burr, Thom Tillis
After a deadly shooting, the debate always, it seems, breaks down like this: One side argues for gun control, and the other argues there is no research proving those measures work. There is, in fact, little research into gun violence at all—especially compared to other causes of death in the United States.
The modern origins of the impasse can be traced to 1996, when Congress passed an amendment to a spending bill that forbade the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from using money to “advocate or promote gun control.”
Get Out of Facebook and Into the N.R.A.’s Face
by David Williams | Feb 25, 2018 | Mark Meadows, Op-Ed, Our Elected Representatives, President Trump, Resistance, Richard Burr, Thom Tillis
Read the paper or the web. The G.O.P., which claimed to stand for conservative family values, has prostrated itself before the most indecent person to ever occupy the White House — a man who lies as he breathes, smears poor, nonwhite nations and reportedly had sex with a porn star shortly after his wife delivered their son. But G.O.P. lawmakers are mute on this because President Trump energizes their base and ensures their $174,000-a-year jobs and free parking at Reagan National Airport.

by David Williams | Jan 29, 2018 | Equality, Mark Meadows
The House Committee on Ethics is still investigating Rep. Mark Meadows’ (R-NC) handling of sexual harassment complaints against his former chief of staff, numerous sources have confirmed to The Daily Beast.
And though the primary source of interest has been why Meadows, the Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, continued to pay his former top aide Kenny West long after complaints were made about West’s behavior and even following West’s termination, another wrinkle has recently emerged.

by David Williams | Jan 28, 2018 | DACA, Equality, Immigration/Deportation, Mark Meadows, Richard Burr, Take Action!, Thom Tillis, Transylvania Indivisible
The Dream Act fight isn’t over — but it gets a lot tougher from here. Senator Schumer and the Democrats traded away a lot of their leverage, and Trump is in a much stronger position than he was last week. But Indivisible Groups are going to keep sticking with this fight and standing with immigrant youth at risk of deportation.

by David Williams | Dec 23, 2017 | Economy, Equality, Mark Meadows, Richard Burr, Tax Reform, Thom Tillis, Transylvania Indivisible
The Republican tax bill, which Congress sent to President Trump on Wednesday, would give most Americans a tax cut next year, according to a new analysis. However, it would by far benefit the richest Americans the most. Meanwhile, many lower- and middle-class Americans would have higher taxes a decade from now … unless a future Congress extends the cuts.
Read MoreAmerica, you’ve just called up the Kansas tax scheme to the big leagues. Here’s how to talk about it
by David Williams | Dec 21, 2017 | Economy, Equality, Mark Meadows, Op-Ed, Richard Burr, Tax Reform, Thom Tillis, Transylvania Indivisible
The government will just go further in debt, and the US will sell more and more of our bond, mortgage, and consumer debt to foreign entities.
The government will immediately need to move to cut services, often those that help the poor first. Unlike Kansas, which figured in roughly $2B in “Dynamic Scoring” (and missed by about $1.9B) , we’re going to try and dynamic score more than a trillion.
Any idea how this turns out before we stop looking for the ship to come in?
