Sinclair Group Forces All Its Local TV Anchors To Denounce “Fake News” In Support Of Trump Agenda.

The newscasters from Sinclair’s affiliates all knew how deceptive and underhanded this was, and from all reports were uniformly against what they were being forced to do. But to keep their jobs, they had no choice:

“At my station, everyone was uncomfortable doing it,” one unnamed television anchor at a Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned station told CNN earlier this month, referring to the “one-sided news” script.

How to Raise a Boy

Trained by superhero movies, inspired by planet-straddling athlete-gods and tech tycoons more powerful than entire governments, boys are reared to tame their aggressions, then asked to navigate a bleak, winner-take-all economic landscape. Thanks in part to more enlightened attitudes about gender and parenting, it is hard not to see male entitlement and aggression as toxic forces degrading our culture. But it is also hard not to notice that the world is now run by the aggressive and the bullying.

It is also hard not to notice that, in many ways, and on average, boys are falling behind.

‘He was a quiet and normal kid’: The infantilization of young, white male domestic terrorists

Enough already. That is what we should be saying to the media and to white America about its pathological need to humanize white men who commit mass shootings. It is a pattern that people of color are all too familiar with. It is a pattern that some women can see clearly. But, at this point, it should also be really familiar to anyone who is paying attention. And just like Parkland, Fla., school shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez implored us to do when it comes to our excuses about why we can’t have sensible gun control in this country, we need to unequivocally and loudly “call B.S.” each time this happens.

Tell Your Senators: End Our Unauthorized War in Yemen

This doesn’t happen very often—the Senate will soon debate and vote on an American war. Specifically, it will take up a bipartisan resolution (S.J.Res. 54) to end U.S. participation in the Yemen civil war.

This is a big deal. The United States’ role in the Yemen war is complicated and controversial. Importantly, it also hasn’t been authorized by Congress.

For too long, Congress has ceded its war powers to the executive branch. That’s always been a dangerous trend—but it’s especially perilous now that Donald Trump is the commander-in-chief.

There’s a lot at stake here. Here’s what you need to know.

The annual spring plant sale by the Transylvania Master Gardeners, The Transylvania Garden Club, The French Broad Garden Club and the Heritage Museum will be held Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Brevard Ingles parking lot on Asheville Highway. This will be the second year in this location and it allows very easy access and plenty of parking for customers.

The annual plant sale raises funds to support gardening and landscape projects throughout Transylvania Count including the Master Gardeners projects including those at Silvermont and the Pisgah Ranger Station and scholarships provided by the garden clubs.

Come early for the best selection from a large variety of high quality, locally raised perennials, annuals, vegetables, trees and shrubs. Local gardeners also will be on hand to offer advice.

The plant sale takes place rain or shine. Admission is free.

For more information, contact the Transylvania County Extension office, (828) 884-3109 or mmickew@ncsu.edu.
