The Trump administration’s separation of families at the border, explained.

When it first became clear that the Trump administration was engaging in wide-scale family separation, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly waved off questions about the policy by saying that children would be sent to “foster care or whatever.” The vagueness and inaccuracy were telling.

The administration knows it is separating families. It does not appear to believe it’s its job to reunite them.

NC NAACP threatens to sue and urges Apple and Amazon to stay away from NC over ‘voter ID’ bill and Charter school law

An advocacy group wants Apple and Amazon to drop the Raleigh-Durham area from consideration for new campuses if the state Legislature continues with its move to write a voter identification requirement into the state constitution.
The Color of Change, which calls itself the largest online racial justice organization, said it has run an ad in San Jose and Seattle newspapers, telling the companies to “reject racism.”
North Carolina is on the list of 20 sites being considered for Seattle-based Amazon’s second headquarters. Apple, based outside of San Jose, California, is considering a site in Research Triangle Park for one of its campus.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Speaks in Code. Here’s What He’s Really Saying.

“Jeff Sessions’s past behavior has demonstrated active hostility to many Americans. As a prosecutor in Alabama, he prosecuted civil rights activists for doing nothing more than assisting African-Americans to vote, because to him, that was a crime. He has characterized the NAACP as forcing civil rights down the throats of white people. This is a remarkable statement, one that appears to reflect a belief that white people decide when and just how many civil rights people of color should receive.”

LISTEN: Jeff Sessions espouses a stunningly heartless, inhumane vision in interview with Hugh Hewitt

The administration’s immigration crackdown is beginning to take shape.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a man who combines the dashing good looks of the Keebler Elves with the effortless charm of Bull Connor, is wasting no time implementing the steps necessary to transform his lifelong dream of a brown people-free America into reality. – GQ

In ‘complete victory’ for Los Angeles, judge rules DOJ can’t tie funding to cooperation with ICE

Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III is hell-bent on rigging the immigration courts against immigrants and due process, but in the courtrooms out of his clutches, he continues to lose:

A federal judge in Los Angeles ruled this week that the U.S. Department of Justice cannot withhold public safety, policing grants in so-called “sanctuary cities” where local law enforcement officials can choose not to turn over suspected undocumented immigrants in custody over to federal immigration authorities.

Sign and send the petition to Congress: Congress has the power to save the census.

This is another chapter in the racially based playbook for the Republican game of permanent majority, minority oppression, and ethnic cleansing versus fair voting, one vote-one voice, and participation in government of the people, by the people and for the people. It is an affront to the principles of representative Democracy and a moral disgrace, no matter what rationale you hide it behind.

‘He was a quiet and normal kid’: The infantilization of young, white male domestic terrorists

Enough already. That is what we should be saying to the media and to white America about its pathological need to humanize white men who commit mass shootings. It is a pattern that people of color are all too familiar with. It is a pattern that some women can see clearly. But, at this point, it should also be really familiar to anyone who is paying attention. And just like Parkland, Fla., school shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez implored us to do when it comes to our excuses about why we can’t have sensible gun control in this country, we need to unequivocally and loudly “call B.S.” each time this happens.

Campaign Action Sign the petition to the U.S. Senate: Pass a bill to fully fund the Census Bureau and 2020 census activities.

The census historically undercounts communities of color, low-income people, and immigrant communities. The 2010 census failed to count over 1.5 million people of color. 1.5 million people weren’t counted when it was time to map voting districts and fund vital human services. Undercounting will have even harsher impacts on communities of color if we let Trump purposely starve the Census Bureau.

The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival will necessarily be a multi-year undertaking. The Summer of 2017 through the Spring of 2018 will be used as the public launching of the Campaign. By engaging in highly publicized civil disobedience and direct action over a 6-week period in at least 25 states and the District of Columbia during the Spring of 2018, the Campaign will force a serious national examination of the enmeshed evils of systemic racism, poverty, militarism and environmental devastation during a key election year while strengthening and connecting informed and committed grassroots leadership in every state, increasing their power to continue this fight long after June 2018.
